Why GIY

I've been working on this for a while. In my head more than at the desk.

Until now I have talked about ideas and on rare occasions take them into reality but here is GIY LIVE ... even if it is only a fledgling at the moment, flapping one little wing indicating signs of life.

I have been driven to do something like this since Carbon Cops screened on ABC TV in 2007. I saw raised awareness but people struggled with real actions to make their home and lifestyle energy efficient. I thought people needed a bit of guidance through the deep green jungle without all the smoke and mirrors of broadcast TV.

GIY Green It Yourself aims to make green DIY achievable and uncomplicated so that energy efficiency can be automatic and almost invisible.

My vision is that it will grow to become useful, practical and even slightly entertaining and will certainly give you the know-how, low-down and get-up to make a few energy efficiency improvements to your home and lifestyle.

Thanks to everyone who has helped get it up and running.

The British Council and its Big Green Idea funding for the seed of an idea. The friendly folk around me encouraging the development of the idea a and the expertise of those who have pulled it out of nowhere to pull it all together.

The fabulous Nick Fejer on all things tricky, technical, practical and where patience is required.  Bobby Cerini for all her knowledge, spark and skill in filming. Jen Edwards for her expertise and enthusiasm about energy efficiency. Sarah McArthur and Denzil Tudor on graphic design and creating 'the look'. David Houlder for writing it all down in a language only a computer can understand and friends all around for feedback and brilliant ideas.

I tell you, green has never looked so gold.

This is the very beginning. There are a few videos, some quick fixes and other teasers. Subscribe and we will trickle feed you with 'new release' GIY videos and content each month. The newsletter will be short, vaguely sweet and will point you in the direction of what is new on the site that will excite. Maybe there will be a GIY job for you to do.

If you have any suggestions for other GIY episodes or content you would like to see, please contact us and we will get onto it pronto, pronto (time permitting!)

Now subscribe. Go on! You'll love it.
